Unknown persons, yesterday, attacked the conference room of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in Oru West Local Council of Imo State, less than a week after a similar attack in the state.

The Guardian learnt that the attackers forcefully entered the conference room and destroyed furniture during the incident that occurred at about 4:00 a.m.

Imo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Sylvia Uchenna Agu, yesterday, confirmed the incident.

Also, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, in a statement, confirmed the attack.

He regretted that it was the second time, after a similar incident occurred in Orlu Local Council on December 1, making it the seventh attack in five states in four months.

He lamented that constant attacks have ‘systematic consequences’ on the general election.
