AIG Odama tasks Rivers police on curbing crime rate
Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in charge of Zone 16, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Paul Odama, has charged officers and men of the Rivers State Police Command to consolidate on their achievements and ensure crime rate is reduced.
The AIG gave the charge, yesterday, while addressing officers of the command during his first familiarisation visit to the state.
Odama, who commended the policemen for achievements recorded, noted that the state has one of the three biggest commands in the country.
He said due to the cosmopolitan nature of the city, which plays host to all sorts of people, including men from the underworld, crime fighting is a serious business. He, therefore, charged the officers not to rest on their oars.
He said: “My main purpose of coming down to Rivers State is to familiarise myself with you because we will be working together, and you will be seeing signals from me. So, there is a need for us to meet, one-on-one, and talk. That is why I am here.
He assured that he would relay challenges faced by the command to the Inspector General of Police.
Earlier, State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, had raised challenges faced by men of the command, including insufficient equipment, accommodation, pointing out that the state is strategic to the economy of the nation.
He thanked the AIG for the visit, saying it would boost the morale of the men, adding: “This visit is coming at the right time, when advice and experience is needed to inspire officers and men of the command to perform their duties optimally.”
