AIG worries about increasing baby factories in Abia
The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 9, Umuahia, Hosea Karma, has lamented that despite police and other security agencies drive to check illegal babies/maternity homes also known as ‘baby factories’, the nefarious act has persisted in Abia State.
The AIG, who disclosed this while receiving in his office in Umuahia the new executive members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abia State Council, led by Obinna Ibe, said though Abia has recorded great reduction in criminal activities and enjoyed relative peace, it still faces the menace of illegal maternity homes.
He consequently charged journalists to do the needful investigation to expose the perpetrators and collaborate with security agencies in this regard, saying “it is disheartening that a pregnant girl will sell her baby and a mother so callous and inhuman will sell off her baby, who most times are used for rituals.”
While tasking journalists on balanced reporting, especially as the campaigns for 2019 election begin, AIG Karma solicited the partnership of the media through dissemination of appropriate information that could aid effective policing and expose criminals and their hideouts.
