… Arrest six, rescue two pregnant women, four children

The Ogun State Police Command has vowed to locate a missing newborn and ensure the prosecution of all suspects found culpable in connection with an alleged baby factory uncovered in Mowe, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, gave the assurance in a statement issued in Abeokuta, saying operatives of the Mowe Division had arrested six suspects and rescued two pregnant women and four children during an intelligence-led operation.

The suspects were arrested after police raided the alleged baby factory at Abaren Village, Mowe, on August 24, 2026, at about 8 a.m.

The suspects were identified as Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and an attending nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya.
Babaseyi said the operation followed sustained intelligence that led operatives to the syndicate’s hideout on Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, a suburb of Mowe.

He said preliminary investigations indicated that the facility had allegedly been used over time for human trafficking and illegal adoption activities.

According to him, the operatives rescued Ilesanmi Foluke, 23, who was seven months pregnant, and Ejekwa Melody, who was eight months pregnant, as well as four children comprising two boys and two girls.
Babaseyi said further intelligence-led operations took the police to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where another victim, 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong, had given birth to a baby boy on August 20, 2026.

He said while Effiong was receiving medical treatment, the whereabouts of her newborn could not be established, prompting the arrest of the attending nurse as investigations continued to locate the infant.
“The command will leave no stone unturned in locating the missing newborn and ensuring that every culpable suspect is brought to justice,” Babaseyi said.

He said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation to establish the full extent of the alleged syndicate’s activities.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Mowe Division operatives for their prompt response and operational efficiency.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling human trafficking, child trading and other forms of violent crime across the state.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and support the police by providing timely and credible information, assuring them that the command would sustain intelligence-led policing to protect residents and safeguard children.
