Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu

The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, yesterday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to reconsider his stance on special status for Lagos and other deserving states because of their enormous infrastructure challenges.

He made the plea in Lagos, when the Chief Executive Officer of Visionscape Sanitation Solution, John Irvine led top management staff of the firm on a courtesy visit to his palace.

The monarch said Lagos has several development challenges but has limited resources for their successful execution, hence the need for a special status for the state and other deserving states to address some of the challenges.

He said Lagos was the microcosm of Nigeria and its progress was the progress of the entire country, stressing that Lagos has always been the first among states because of the foundation its founding fathers laid down but needed help to address its many challenges, especially security challenges.

Akiolu noted that the recent upward review of the land use charge was one example of the need to meet the city’s development challenges. He, however, expressed happiness that the land use charge has been reduced following the protests that greeted increase, stressing that the state government was an all-inclusive and listening one and would continue to listen to better suggestions to move the state forward.

Speaking, Irvine solicited the monarch’s blessings on Visionscape’s project, stressing that the firm was ready to deliver exceptional service in the state in order to showcase Lagos as a premium state in the country.

He expressed appreciation to the monarch for the warm reception accorded them since July last year when they started operations and asked for more cooperation to serve the state better.
