A Technical Adviser in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Professor Bernard Babatunde, on Wednesday took his wife of 21 years in marriage to the altar in a ceremony attended by prominent Nigerian leaders in Abuja.

Babatunde, the first Professor of Radioecology in Africa, alongside his wife, dressed in traditional attire for the occasion, drawing applause from his guests for upholding tradition and cultural values.

Professor Babatunde and his wife, Dr. Tolulope Mohammed, were wedded at the Holy Family Catholic Church, Life Camp, where Senator Akume led other dignitaries to the event.

Babatunde has been a specialist in Radioecology for many years, a complex multidisciplinary branch of nuclear science concerned with the fate, human, and environmental health impacts of radioactivity from natural and man-made sources.

Senator Akume was also accompanied to the ceremony by his wife, Honourable Regina Akume, a member of the House of Representatives representing Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency of Benue State.

The officiating priest, Reverend Father Anthony Olaniyan, in his homily, encouraged the couple to continue to be faithful in showing love to one another.

“In so doing, you will be able to train and grow your children in the fear of God as better future people,” he said.

The atmosphere of the wedding ceremony was an ambience of mixed cultures from the Tiv and Yoruba ethnic groups.

The celebrant said he chose to celebrate in the Tiv and Yoruba cultures at the wedding because of his lineage from the two tribes.

“My mum is Tiv and brought me up to embrace the two cultures of my father and hers. If you noticed, it was a blend,” Professor Babatunde said.

Babatunde is also a Professor of Environment and hails from Otan Ayegbaju, Osun State, while his better half is from Edo State.

The marriage, blessed with three children, was seen by many as a true reflection of how cultural diversity has, in many ways, depicted the love among Nigerians as a people.
