Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Culture and Tourism has said that the state is set to hold its first-ever yearly Ibom Boat Regatta And Fishing Festival.
The event billed for September 27, according to a statement by the ministry, is designed to commemorate World Tourism Day.
“The event is scheduled for September 27, 2024, at Marina Beach, Nwaniba, as part of activities to commemorate the 2024 World Tourism Day celebrations in the state.
“There will be prizes for winners and consolation prizes for others. Side events include the unveiling of the restored slave boat and slave memorial park, cultural displays and tug-of-war.
“The festival will stimulate economic activities and strengthen the bond of friendship and interconnectivity in coastal communities. It will also attract tourists and investors to the beach communities,” the statement read.
Governor Umo Eno, according to the statement, will be the Special Guest of Honour, adding that the event is in line with the Tourism Policy Thrust of the ARISE Agenda.
