• Atiku’s aide tasks police on equality
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has vowed to achieve electoral victory for all of the party’s candidates in the state, from President Bola Tinubu and Governor Abba Yusuf to other flag bearers at the 2027 poll.
To that end, the state chairman, Umar Doguwa, warned members against sabotaging the party’s chances of victory at next year’s general election.
Meanwhile, a media aide to the ADC presidential candidate, Paul Ibe, has called on Nigerian security agencies to enforce the law equally across party lines, after the police invited a Kano State opposition politician for questioning over an alleged firearm display.
Ibe spoke amid claims that members of the ruling APC, who were accused of making similar threats of violence, have not been investigated. Ibe condemned the reported conduct of NDC politician, Aminu Warkal, who was caught in a video displaying a firearm at a political gathering in Kano, saying the incident warranted investigation.
Speaking yesterday during an engagement with party leaders in Kano North Senatorial District, Doguwa, represented by the Zonal Chairman, Abdullahi Bichi, emphasised that the zonal leaders’ commitment must be absolute and unwavering, as the party upholds the principles of loyalty and unity.
He urged party members to uphold discipline, unity, loyalty, and respect for constituted authority, warning against activities that could undermine the party’s cohesion.
According to him, individuals found engaging in anti-party activities, factionalism or attempts to undermine the party and its candidates would face disciplinary measures in accordance with the APC Constitution.
Bichi further described Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau as the leader of the APC in the district, while calling on party leaders, stakeholders and members across the senatorial district to mobilise for Tinubu Abba and Jibrin.
However, the principle must apply equally to everybody, Ibe said in a statement yesterday, adding that Nigeria cannot afford a system in which an opposition politician is swiftly invited over alleged intimidation while similar conduct by members of the ruling party attracts a different response.
