The Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, alongside other senior security experts, including former Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has assured that adequate measures are being put in place to ensure a peaceful and orderly environment for the forthcoming National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Musa, who chairs the Convention Security Committee, which includes the former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu Abubakar, gave assurance on Friday during the committee’s inaugural meeting, stressing that security arrangements would be robust, coordinated, and proactive to guarantee the safety of all participants.

According to him, the APC National Convention is a critical event that will bring together thousands of delegates, party leaders, government officials and observers from across Nigeria and beyond.

He noted that such a large gathering requires a well-structured security framework capable of addressing potential risks and ensuring that the convention proceeds without disruption.

Musa explained that the establishment of the committee demonstrates the party’s commitment to providing a secure environment for delegates, dignitaries, media representatives, and other participants throughout the convention.

“The responsibility before us is both significant and strategic. The National Convention is one of the most critical events in the life of any political party. It is the platform through which the party renews its leadership structures, consolidates internal democracy, and reinforces its vision for national development,” he said.

He said the committee would conduct a comprehensive assessment of potential risks and vulnerabilities and develop an integrated security plan to ensure effective coordination among relevant security agencies.

The Defence Minister emphasised that the committee would adopt a preventive approach, identifying and addressing possible threats well in advance rather than reacting to incidents after they occur.

He added that the success of the security arrangements would depend largely on effective collaboration among security, intelligence and law enforcement agencies tasked with maintaining law and order during the convention.

Musa also urged members of the committee to approach their assignment with professionalism, discipline and dedication, noting that the convention must reflect the highest standards of organisation and security expected of a ruling political party.

He expressed confidence that, with the wealth of experience among the committee members, the APC would deliver a security framework capable of ensuring a smooth and successful national convention.

The committee chairman further stressed the need for timely decisions to enable operational preparations to commence without delay.

He then formally declared the inaugural meeting of the APC National Convention Security Committee open, expressing optimism that the convention would be conducted in a safe, orderly and peaceful atmosphere
