APC senators are ignorant of the constitution to impeach Saraki, says Makarfi

Ahmed Makarfi
Immediate past National Caretaker Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ahmed Makarfi, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) clamouring to impeach the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, lack constitutional understanding.
Markafi said this yesterday in Akure when meeting the Ondo State PDP leadership and members to solicit their support for his presidential election in the 2019 general election.
He dispelled the threats from the APC senators and leadership on their plans to impeach the Senate President after he defected to the major opposition party, PDP.
According to him, “I am not surprised with their actions; it shows their ignorance about the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria because the constitution is clear about that.
If they are familiar with the constitution they will know that they lack the legal powers to impeach the Senate President.
“I am sure they cannot have the two third majority, which the constitution requires for the impeachment of the Senate President.
Our members in the Senate are intelligent people who will not give lawlessness a place in the Senate.”
The former governor of Kaduna State, Makarfi, noted that the defection of Dr. Saraki to another party would not cause him to vacate his seat as the Senate President, adding that the constitution does not indicate he must come from a ruling party.
“I will refer the APC senators to the constitution for better understanding of the laws of our country,” he said, assuring that the PDP would resolve its challenges mutually to sack the ruling party in the next election.
Among such challenges were the arrival of new members who decamped to contest elections, but he insisted, “the leadership of our party has all it takes to handle any challenge that may come as a result of the development.
“There is nothing good without its challenges. Our party needs new members and we appreciate the defection of some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) into our party.
