The next governor of Abia State from May 29, 2027, will come from Abia Central Senatorial District if the candidate of the All Progressives Congress ( APC ) becomes the winner of the 2027 election.

This follows the decision of the APC that the slot should be for the central district.

The Abia State APC Publicity Secretary Mr Uche Aguoru announced this in a press statement he released today ( Thursday 30th April ) which he marked “2027 General Elections: APC Zones Governorship To Abia Central Senatorial District”

Abia Central District comprisis Umuahia North, Umuahia South, Ikwuano, Isiala Ngwa North , Isiala Ngwa South, and Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Councils.

The release reads ” This is to notify our esteemed members and the general public in Abia State that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has zoned its governorship ticket for the forthcoming election to Abia Central Senatorial District”.

He also stated that this notice should guide party members and intending guber aspirants in the purchase of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.

According to the statement, this decision is taken in the interest of equity, justice, and fair play, and in line with the party’s commitment to balanced representation across the three senatorial zones.

Aguoru recalled ” since the return of democracy in 1999, Abia State has operated on an understanding of power rotation among the three zones to foster unity and inclusiveness.

” The decision is further premised on the fact that the State Chairman of the Party hails from Abia North Senatorial District, while Abia South produced the immediate past governor of the state. It is therefore just and equitable for Abia Central to produce the next governor on the APC platform”.

The APC , the Publicity Secretary stated , appealed to all aspirants and stakeholders from other zones to respect this decision of the party in the spirit of sportsmanship, urging that all should ” work together to secure victory for our great party”.

Recall that the three past Abia State governors namely; Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Senator Theodore Orji and Dr Okezie Ikpeazu in this order, hailed from Abia North, Abia Central and Abia South districts respectively.

So far, Chief Henry Ikoh of the APC, of Abia Central has announced his aspiration to contest for the guber in the 2027 election.

Asked to react to this development, he ( Ikoh) lauded the APC decision, describing the decision as one based on equity, justice and fairness.
