Dogari Daje of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged winner of the Munya Constituency by-election to the Niger State House of Assembly, securing 12,556 votes, according to results announced on Sunday. His closest rival, Sabon Sunday of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), received 5,646 votes, creating a margin of 6,910 votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Abdulkarim Saka from the Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna, confirmed that the APC won 10 of the 11 wards, while the PDP secured only one ward.
The announcement was made at the INEC Area Office in Sarkin Pawa, Munya Local Government Area (LGA).
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Niger State, Ahmed Garki, described the election as “transparent and credible,” while Niger State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, commended officers for maintaining a “peaceful and violence-free process.”
Local government officials also praised the orderly conduct of the election. Aminu Najume, Chairman of Munya Local Government, and Maurice Majaji, Commissioner for Land and Survey, highlighted the peaceful atmosphere that allowed voters to exercise their franchise freely.
Some voters attributed the large turnout to the relative peace in Munya Local Government. Danlaldi Hakimi advised the PDP candidate to accept the results, saying, “It is God who gives power and only one person can be declared a winner.”
The by-election, conducted on Saturday, fills the vacant seat in the Niger State House of Assembly following the departure of the previous representative.
