Charge religious adherents on co-operation, understanding

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has offered special prayers for God’s intervention over the present economic and social challenges the country is passing through.

He asked for wisdom, power and courage to discharge his responsibilities effectively.

Governor Ugwuanyi, who spoke while receiving the Founder and General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William F. Kumuyi and his entourage who were at the Government House in Enugu to inform him of the ministry’s leadership conference holding in the state, stated that the conference was an opportunity to re-present to God the challenges facing the country under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari and Enugu State under his humble leadership.

While urging members of the ministry to continue to remember Enugu State and the nation in general in prayers, Governor Ugwuanyi, who re-affirmed his belief in the miracle of five loaves and two fishes, expressed optimism that “miracles will begin to happen at the end of your stay here.”

Earlier in his address, Pastor Kumuyi appreciated the governor for receiving them at the Government House in spite of his tight schedule.

He told the governor that he and his entourage were in Enugu State for a pastoral visit, which would enable the ministry to transmit God’s messages to the rest of Africa and other parts of the world.

In another development, Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has called on Muslims nationwide to pray for peace as the country is going through tough economic and security challenges.

Aregbesola, in a statement by the Director, Bureau of Communication and Strategy, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, admonished Muslims to imbibe the salient lessons of Ramadan and emulation of the humility, good neighbourliness, understanding and love exemplified by the life of Prophet Mohammed.

According to him, Muslims must exhibit qualities such as commitment, discipline, obedience to and love of Allah, and apply same in their daily relationship to their fellow human beings irrespective of ethnic and religious affiliations.

He, therefore, enjoined the people of the state to live in peace and extend hands of fellowship to their neighbours for the peaceful and tranquil atmosphere in the state in the past five years to continue unhindered.

“It is a known fact that this is not a good time for the country. The economy is in doldrums. There is palpable air of insecurity all over the country.

“As we wade through these economic and security turbulence, all we need is for leaders and the led; Muslims and Christians and adherents of other faiths, to come together as one and co-operate with President Muhammadu Buhari to jointly pursue our a common destiny.

“I congratulate the entire Muslim community in the country for successful completion of fasting”, the governor further said.

Besides, Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the last election, Mr. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI), has urged all Muslims to pray for peace and economic revival of Nigeria as they celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Fitr.

Isiaka, who congratulated the Muslim faithful for successfully ending this year’s fasting period, said the lessons and teachings learnt during the holy month should not be lost during the celebration.

He said: “We have learnt lessons to persevere and put others first. We have been reminded of the need to re-dedicate ourselves to a selfless service to make humanity better than we met it. Our country needs our prayers at this critical period when the economy has nosedived beyond our imagination. Besides, we must continue to pray for our dear Ogun State to survive the current economic hardship and for our leaders to have compassion on the citizens.

“The holy month of Ramadan did not only afford us a unique opportunity to examine ourselves but to submit all our endeavours to Allah for divine directions which we must continue after the Ramadan.”
