Arewa youths seek release of detained journalist
The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has sought the immediate release of detained journalist and publisher of CrossRiverWatch, Agba Jalingo, by the police authorities.
The human rights activist and Editor-in-Chief of the online medium was allegedly whisked away from Lagos by policemen to an unknown destination at the weekend for reportedly criticising the Cross River State government.
The arrest took place ahead of his August 26 date with the force for questioning.AYCF’s national president, Yerima Shettima, in a statement yesterday deplored the action, noting: “Jalingo’s detention adds to the condemnable efforts of some supposed leaders in the country to stifle the press and freedom of speech.”
