Armed cultists nabbed in Benin

The Police in Edo State yesterday said they arrested two suspected cultists on the Benin-Sapele Road bypass in Benin City with a pump-action gun and dry leaves believed to be marijuana.

The Police in Edo State yesterday said they arrested two suspected cultists on the Benin-Sapele Road bypass in Benin City with a pump-action gun and dry leaves believed to be marijuana.
 
The suspects, Imasuen Raymond (32) and Precious Ajayi (24), were intercepted on an ash-coloured Lexus 330 car with registration number FUG 571 SB with two occupants by officers of the state command on patrol.
 
Spokesperson for the command, SP Kontonks Bello, in a statement, said the suspects confessed to being members of a deadly cult group in Benin City.
 


The statement read: “Today 24/07/2021, about 1046hrs, operatives of the Anti-kidnaping and Cyber Crime Unit of Edo State Police Command, while on township patrol on the Benin-Sapele Road bypass by Etiosa community intercepted ash coloured Lexus 330 car with registration number FUG 571 SB with two occupants.
 
“On-the-spot search conducted on the vehicle led to the recovery of one pump action gun and some dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The suspects, Imasuen Raymond, male, 32 years, and Precious Ajayi, male, 24 years, were subsequently arrested.

“The suspects also confessed to being members of one of the deadly cult groups in Benin City. They will soon be charged to court accordingly.”
 
It added that the state Commissioner of Police, Philip Ogbadu, has reinstated his commitment to ensuring a crime-free Edo State.
 
The statement pointed out that the commissioner had directed all area commanders, divisional police officers and tactical commanders to intensify patrol within the state to arrest criminal elements in the state.
