Residents in Imo State, especially Owerri, the state capital, are living in fear over the new robbery device adopted by bandits in which victims are forced to disclose the pin numbers of their Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards and their money transferred to the suspects’ account at gunpoint in their homes or on the road at night.

Some victims who relieve their experience, said they were attacked by robbers with POS machines, who instantly dispossessed them of their money from their accounts.

A victim, who was robbed at her home in Owerri, last night, told journalists that the family was taken unawares when some bandits invaded their home and swiftly directed them to submit large sums of money. When they could not produce the money, they were forced to disclose their pin numbers for transfer, using POS machine they came with.

Also, a man who wanted to buy a car in Owerri, was shot yesterday by suspected armed robbers in Owerri, after he had been trailed to the bank.

According to sources, the victim had gone to a car dealer on the outskirts of the city to buy a car worth about N1.3 million. The dealer told the prospective buyer to pay him in cash. In order to comply with the request, the buyer headed to his bank to withdraw from his account only to be confronted by the bandits.

The matter is under investigation, according to police sources.
