Army chief tasks officers on professionalism, proficiency
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen. Farouk Yahaya, yesterday, urged officers and men of the Nigerian Army (NA) on professionalism and proficiency in the discharge of military operations.
Yahaya gave the charge during the flag-off of the maiden Captain to Major Written Promotion Examination, Direct Regular Commission 2023 (CMWPE DRC 2023), held at the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport (S&T) Benin, Edo State.
The Army Chief stressed that advancement in knowledge and skills is key in military operations globally.
He stated that CMWPE DRC 2023 is the first of its kind in the history of NA, noting that the candidates are most privileged to be pioneers of this examination, which is inline with his command philosophy and the desire to develop capabilities of personnel across the NA, as well as improve their military profession and areas of specialisations.
He reiterated that the examination is to develop competency among all commissions in the army, which is in line with his vision of having “a professional NA ready to accomplish assigned mission within a joint environment in defence of Nigeria.”
He added that the examination is designed to ensure officers are competent in their chosen career, as well as their respective corps.
Similarly, Yahaya noted that the examination is not meant to witch-hunt anyone, but for self-improvement and career development.
He advised candidates to avoid any form of examination malpractice, as that would lead to immediate disqualification and further disciplinary actions.
While appreciating the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, for the support and confidence reposed in the army, Yahaya also appreciated the Examination President and Commander, Training And Doctrine Command, NA, Maj. Gen. Stevenson Olabanji, for his effort to making the preparation process a successful one.
He equally thanked the Corps Commander, Supply and Transport, and Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, for providing a conducive environment for conduct of the examination.
