Asaba Specialist Hospital marks World Health Day 2024 with road walk, free diabetes screening

The management of Asaba Specialist Hospital under the leadership of the Chief Medical Director, Dr Peace Ighosewe, on Monday, joined other health professionals to celebrate this year’s World Health Day.

During the event, the health professionals organized a health walk and talk to create awareness of the importance of healthy living and also, a free diabetes screening for over 250 persons was carried out at the premises of the hospital.

The health walk was done by members and staff of the Asaba Specialist Hospital while a cross-section of Asaba residents including the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Delta State Governor, Mrs Veronica Abang-Gwam underwent the medical screening exercise at the hospital.

Dr Peace Ighosewe is the Chief Medical Director of Asaba Specialist Hospital.

Chief Medical Director, Dr Peace Ighosewe who spoke at the event disclosed that the exercise was in line with the theme for this year’s celebration which is “Your Health, Your Right.” She disclosed that everyone has a right to access good health at a good affordable cost.

She further added that the general public was sensitized on the need to exercise regularly to help maintain physical fitness and reduce the risk of chronic diseases; eat a balanced diet which will provide essential nutrients for optimal health; go for routine medical checkups to allow for easy detection, timely intervention and management of any health issues.

Dr Ighosewe added that in line with the MORE Agenda of Governor Sherrif Oborevwori’s administration, the Asaba Specialist Hospital will continue to do its part to empower members of the surrounding communities with the right information on the importance of prioritizing healthy habits that can significantly improve their physical health, mental wellbeing and quality of life.

The Consultant Family Physician and Head of the Department of Family Medicine of Asaba Specialist Hospital, Dr Dominic Uwadia who also spoke at the event disclosed that the day was an eventful one and that the hospital will keep up with the promotion of healthy living and disease prevention so that the people don’t wait till they get ill before getting necessary medical attention. He was joined by Ms. Faith Emetonjor; the Medical Laboratory Scientist, who also advised that everyone should live a healthy life. In her words, “Your Health is Your Right.”
