ASUP to begin strike December 2
The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) will commence strike on December 2, 2024.
Chairman of ASUP, Kaduna Polytechnic Chapter, Comrade Abubakar J. Abdullahi, said the decision is due to the failure of the Federal Government to meet their longstanding demands.
He said, “The silence and inaction have left us with no option but to consider the possibility of a total shutdown of our institutions by December 2, 2024.”
At a press briefing in Kaduna on Tuesday, Abdullahi listed ASUP’s demands to include:
“Release of NEEDS Assessment Funds: The second tranche of the intervention fund to address infrastructure and academic needs,” he said.
“Implementation of Salary Review: Immediate application of the 25/35% salary review across all public polytechnics.
“Payment of Arrears: Clearing of accrued salary arrears owed to members.”
He stressed that a strong education sector is vital for the future of the nation, adding that quality education should not be compromised.
He called on the Federal Government to engage in meaningful dialogue and take decisive actions to resolve the issues before the strike commences.
