At ACE convocation, FG promises education for all
The Federal Government has promised to introduce policies that would improve the quality of education in the country, to give citizens unfettered access.
Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, gave the assurance at the 34th convocation ceremony of the Adeyemi College of Education (ACE), Ondo State, lauding the institution for its landmark achievements.
The Guardian gathered that 10 students made first class, 1,436 made second class upper, 3,078 second class lower, 1,053 third class and 175 pass degrees. The minister, who was represented by the executive secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, said that government was committed to strengthening the nation’s education sector.
He disclosed that his ministry had been monitoring the steady progress in the college, expressing satisfaction over the successes in academics, infrastructure, information and communications technology, transfer and international linkages.He added: “We are not unaware of the challenges of funding, inadequate facilities and teachers, industrial actions by trade unions and other issues that have continued to plague the system. “Despite the challenges, however, we remain committed to our goals and assure Nigerians that we shall not rest on our oars.”
Adamu congratulated the outgoing provost of ACE, Olukoya Ogen, for his outstanding achievements in office and urged the governing council, management, staff and students to continue contributing their quota to the development of the institution.Chairman of the governing council, Prof. Nath Ohazurike, noted that the college had contributed immensely to the society through human resources development and capacity building in its 54 years of existence.
Ohazurike acknowledged the considerable impact of the outgoing provost and his management team, revealing that the council enjoyed tremendous support and cooperation from them.He urged the graduands to be worthy ambassadors of the college. “As you transmute from being students to becoming members of the ACE alumni, I urge you to continue to keep the flag of Adeyemi College of Education flying.”
