Atiku, Obi, Amaechi, others converge on Ibadan for opposition summit

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi; former Senate President David Mark; former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola; and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, are among top political figures who have converged on Ibadan, Oyo State capital, for a national summit of opposition parties.

Others at the summit include former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu; former Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed; Senators Victor Umeh and Rabiu Kwankwaso; Prof. Jerry Gana; and Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, among others.

The summit is being hosted by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The gathering is  focusing on strengthening opposition collaboration ahead of future elections, with Atiku believed to be among key figures eyeing the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 poll.

Makinde, in his remarks, stressed the need to protect Nigeria’s democracy, urging stakeholders to work collectively to deepen democratic values.
