Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has promised to restore peace and tourism in Plateau State and revive the ailing economy if elected next year.

He stated this during the PDP presidential campaign flag-off in Plateau, yesterday, at the Rwang Pam Township Stadium, Jos, as supporters of the party and other residents came out to catch a glimpse Atiku and his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa.

Atiku stressed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government neglected all the roads connecting Plateau and other states in the country, promising to change the narrative when voted in.

He said: “We will revamp the economy. We will bring about peace and prosperity by making entrepreneurs of our young men and women. I want you to promise that you are going to return PDP to power in this state in the next election at the national level.”

The former vice president also promised to empathise with the neglected Plateau people, despite being an APC state.

His words: “Federal institutions in the state, such as the Vom Veterinary Research Centre, has become a shadow of themselves in the eight years of APC’s rule. This anomaly will be addressed with all sense of responsibility and equity, if the PDP is elected in 2023. We stand for justice and equality.

“Despite the strategic position of Plateau in the country, roads linking it with other parts of the country have become death traps and unmotorable. In fact, even the contract awarded to refurbish the Abuja/Akwanga/Lafia/Makurdi roads was ignored, despite the state’s potential. This, too, will be visited by the PDP government, if elected in 2023. Other roads will also be rehabilitated to enhance commerce.”

According to Atiku, Plateau is renowned for its nice weather and ambience, a potential that could generate millions of dollars to benefit the people and the state’s economy, if harnessed.

“To unleash the full potential of this beautiful state, we will revisit the Kura falls power generation plant. The PDP will seek to enhance every possibility of development, upscale governance and enhance service delivery,” he added.

Earlier, Okowa had said that there would be permanent peace and security if they get to Aso Villa in 2023.

The Delea State governor thanked the youth of Plateau, who he said had already shown that PDP would win the coming election at all levels.

On his part, the national chairman of PDP, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, said that PDP sowed its seed of success in Plateau through the late Solomon Lar, who brought him on board and other patriotic leaders like Abubakar Rimi, Adamu Ciroma, Jonah Jang and Atiku.

Also, member of House of Representatives representing Langtang North and South, Beni Lar, said the mammoth crowd was a peek into the result of the 2023 election.
