The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday revealed that its Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has perfected plans for massive jobs creation and new business opportunities for Nigerians if elected President.

The strategic template will also revamp 24 million businesses crippled by the Buhari Presidency and put millions of Nigerians, who lost their jobs under the present administration, back to work.

A statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, noted that the template is predicated on Atiku’s confidence in Nigerians, as hard working people, with potential to thrive in all fields of endeavor, given the right opportunities and conducive business environment.

“Part of the initiative, as already laid out in Atiku’s economy recovery plan, is to facilitate the establishment of a Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Venture Capital Fund.

“This will be carried out in collaboration with the private sector to provide longer-term capital for targeted small firms in the 36 states of the federation and the Fedearl Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, in various sectors of the economy,” it added.

It further disclosed that the initiative would attract at least N90 billion ($250 million) of direct private sector funding for Nigerians in small and medium businesses with strategic windows for increased production and in various sectors of the economy.

“This is in addition to the plan to reform and re-introduce the Small-scale Industries and Graduate Loan Guarantee, as well as the Small-Scale Industrial Credit Scheme, among others, to reduce stress on benefiting businesses to thrive,” it stated.

However, following the recent defections from the party in Kebbi State, its leadership has said they were not losing sleep over those leaving the party, as it will not affect its chances of winning the elections.

Briefing journalists at the weekend, its Spokesman, Ibrahim Umar Ummai, said PDP has already captured the people’s minds and as such, it would win the election in the state.

Meanwhile, a pro-democracy group rooting for Atiku and Peter Obi’s election has called on the electorate to reject any presidential candidate who does not actively campaign during the elections, stressing that they should not reckon with ‘dumb’ Presidential candidate.

Making this call during the flag-off of the House-to-House Campaign in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chairman of Peter Obi Vanguard, Eric-Kenny Maduagwu, said Buhari lacked the qualities required to take Nigeria to the next level.

He noted that when Buhari seized power from Shehu Shagari in 1983, he surrendered governance to his deputy, Tunde Idiagbon, an action he noted, was now repeating itself with the hijack of power by the cabal.

According to him, the PDP candidates have all it takes to take the country out of the doldrums, adding that from their antecedents, Atiku and Obi could efficiently manage Nigeria’s economy.
