Auchi Polytechnic postpones resumption over ASUP strike
Management of Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State, at the weekend, postponed the new academic session indefinitely following industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP).
Registrar of the institution, Dr. Godwin Ihionkhan, disclosed this in a statement in Auchi, saying: “This is to inform staff members and students that resumption for the new academic session has been postponed indefinitely.”
ASUP had vowed to continue with its nationwide strike in spite of Federal Government’s offer of N15 billion.
Its President, Anderson Ezeibe, insisted that the strike it declared on April 6, 2021 in which it demanded implementation of a new salary scheme for polytechnic lecturers, would continue.
It had explained that its decision to down tool was to draw government’s attention to the nine basic needs of the union, adding that the need to release the 10 months arrears of the new minimum wage owed its members in Federal Polytechnics and implementation of same in states yet to implement the new minimum wage.
