Aurum Digital Consulting Limited has introduced MidlifeCare Africa, a digital platform developed to support African women as they navigate perimenopause, menopause and the broader changes associated with midlife.

The platform combines practical information with private digital tools that help women document what they are experiencing, recognise changes over time and prepare for conversations with healthcare professionals.

Aurum developed the product in response to what it identified as an important gap in women’s digital health: while considerable attention has traditionally been given to areas such as fertility and pregnancy, women entering perimenopause and menopause also need accessible tools designed around their stage of life.

“Women do not stop needing thoughtful health technology when they reach midlife,” a spokesperson for Aurum Digital Consulting Limited said.

“This is a significant chapter in a woman’s life, and our objective with MidlifeCare Africa is to give her practical tools that help her become more informed about her own experience and better prepared when she needs professional care.”

Perimenopause can begin before menopause and may be accompanied by changes in menstrual patterns and a range of other experiences. The nature, timing and intensity of those changes can vary considerably between women.

That variation influenced the way Aurum approached the product.

Rather than attempting to tell women what their experiences mean medically, MidlifeCare Africa allows each user to build a record of her own journey.

Women can document changes over time, organise information they consider relevant and identify questions they may want to discuss during a healthcare appointment.

The company says this distinction is fundamental to the platform.

“MidlifeCare Africa is not a diagnostic service,” the Aurum spokesperson said. “Clinical decisions belong with qualified healthcare professionals. Our role is to use technology to help the woman become a more informed and prepared participant in that conversation.”

Privacy is another important part of the platform’s design.

MidlifeCare Africa allows women to begin engaging with their midlife health journey privately and at their own pace, an approach Aurum believes is particularly relevant in communities where conversations about menopause may still receive limited attention.

The product has also been designed with accessibility and simplicity in mind, including for women who may not consider themselves highly technical users.

Aurum says its intention is not to make women learn a complicated health system, but to make the technology fit naturally into everyday life.

The development of MidlifeCare Africa also reflects the company’s wider approach to building technology.

Aurum Digital Consulting Limited develops digital products around specific problems identified within Nigeria and other African markets, with the longer-term potential for those products to serve users internationally.

For MidlifeCare Africa, that means beginning with African women rather than treating the continent as a secondary market for a product designed elsewhere.

“Africa should not always be at the receiving end of digital innovation,” the Aurum spokesperson said.

“We can identify problems here, build high-quality technology around them here and ultimately take those products beyond Africa. MidlifeCare Africa is being developed with that philosophy.”

For the company, the longer-term ambition is to contribute to a culture in which women approaching midlife have better access to useful information and feel more confident discussing their experiences.

The technology itself is only one part of that objective.

The larger goal is to help make midlife a stage women can approach with greater understanding, preparation and confidence.
