No fewer than eight farmers were killed, and five others were shot when bandits carried out a suspected retaliatory attack on the Gandi community in the Rabah Local Council Area of Sokoto State on Sunday afternoon.
In a similar development, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rantan ward of Bebeji Local Council Area of Kano State, Garba Buba, and another resident identified as Sulaiman Zunduma have been reported killed after suspected hoodlums invaded their community.
Confirming the attack in a Facebook post, a resident, Hamza Rantan, said the gunmen attacked the community on Sunday night. He disclosed that Buba was shot in his house but was later confirmed dead at the hospital, while Zundum died instantly.
Spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the assault, adding that the situation was being assessed to identify the perpetrators.
Also, Garun Mallam Local Council Area has confirmed that three people were killed, and five others were injured by the bandits who attacked the Chiromawa community over the weekend.
In a statement on Sunday, the council’s information officer, Salisu Harris, said the council chairman, Aminu Kadawa, commended residents, vigilantes and security personnel for their efforts at rescuing people and responding to the attack, while calling for stronger cooperation between the communities and security agencies to combat insecurity.
Meanwhile, the state Kano State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of the Sarkin Noman, Yusuf Nadabo, who was abducted during the attack on Chiromawa community. The police said Nadabo has returned to his family unhurt.
