Security team foils attack on Niger communities
Gunmen have killed six persons in Karfi Village, Takai Local Council of Kano State, and abducted the village head, Yahaya Ilu.
The Guardian gathered that the gunmen in their numbers opened fire on the villagers, unprovoked. Aside the six fatalities, three other persons were critically injured.
Confirming the incident, spokesman for the state’s police command, SP Haruna Kiyawa, said the gunmen entered into Takai Karfi Village about 90 kilometres from Bauchi State capital.
The police assured that they soon would rescue the abducted village head.
BUT in Niger State, a team of security operatives foiled planned attack by armed bandits on Fuka and Daza villages of Munya Local Council of Niger State.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Wasiu Abiodun, stated that a joint security tactical team that was immediately drafted to the area discovered that the bandits, who had attacked Zazagha and Injita villages, divided themselves into different groups, moving into Fuka and Daza.
He added that the tactical team advanced to the areas, engaged them in fierce gun battle and stopped them from further attacks.
The bandits later turned to Gwallo and Kafin Koro communities of Paikoro Local Council and the joint security team responded swiftly and recovered rustled cattle from the bandits.
The police spokesman said that another team was sent to Mutun-Daya village, via Gwada in Shiroro Local Council, upon the receipt of information that another group of bandits were sighted in the area.
The team reportedly engaged the bandits in gun duel, killing some of them in the process, while others escaped into the forest with gun shot injuries.
In a related development, Niger State Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Kuryas, also led additional tactical reinforcement team from Minna to Sarkin-Pawa in Munya and restored normalcy in the area.
