Bauchi domesticates Child Right Act, signs 2024 budget into law

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has signed the 2024 appropriation bill into law after it was presented on 30th November, 2023 to the Assembly.

Mohammed had presented the document he tagged as “Budget of Consolidation and Renewed Focus”, comprised of recurrent expenditure of N121,341,193,343.11 (40.4%) while capital expenditure received the sum of N178,878,512,477.49 (59.6%).

​The State’s 2024 budget is 48.2% higher than the 2023 budget. Mohammed attributed this to the increased revenue arising from the subsidy removal and the upward inflationary trends associated with the depreciating state of the local currency.

The Governor also signed other bills into law, the laws include a law to Provide and Protect Rights of the Child in Bauchi State and Other Related Matters 2023, the bill for the law to provide for the establishment of Bauchi State Urban Water and Sewerage Corporation, Bauchi State Small Towns and Sanitation Agency, Bauchi State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency and Bauchi State Water Services, Regulatory Commission and other matters.

Also signed was a bill for a law to amend the Bauchi State Orphans and Vulnerable Children Law 2023.

Bauchi State was among the 11 states yet to domesticate the Child Right Act of 2020. With the Governor’s assent on Thursday, 10 other states yet to pass the bill.
