Bauchi Emirate withdraws Senator’s title for disrespecting governor
The Bauchi Emirate Council has stripped the traditional title of the Senator representing the Bauchi South Senatorial District, Shehu Buba, over alleged disrespect to the Governor, Bala Mohammed.
In similar cases, the Palace has in the past withdrawn the titles of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, a former minister and Elder Statesman, Muhammad Bello Kirfi was removed as Wazirin Bauchi and former member of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi was removed as Wakilin Birnin Bauchi.
Senator Buba had publicly faulted Governor Mohammed over his criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his policies. Buba also accused the Governor of short-changing the residents.
The Emirate Council in a letter signed on Wednesday asked the Senator to desist from using the traditional title.
The letter was dated August 14, 2024, written in Hausa language and signed by the Council Secretary, Nasiru Musa.
The letter stated that it followed a meeting of the Council held on Wednesday, 14th August, chaired by the Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu.
The Council specifically accused Senator Shehu Umar of “disrespecting and humiliating the Bauchi State Governor,” actions it said were at “variance with the teachings and culture of Bauchi Emirate.”
