Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, yesterday, flagged off the construction of an 11km road in Ningi Local Council to reduce the rate of crashes within the metropolis.

Mohammed, who spoke at the ceremony, said the project was to dualise the ever-busy road that leads to Jigawa and Kano from Bauchi State capital.
He lamented that the successive administration had long neglected the area of infrastructure development, saying that although it is difficult for his government to address, he would do his best.

The governor said the project was part of his electioneering promise to assuage the suffering of the people.

He said: “The road will be jointly supervised by a group of engineers from the state’s Ministry of Works and Federal Ministry of Works. It belongs to the Federal Government but we have already obtained the approval to start the road.

“We had waited for the Federal Government to do it but we cannot wait for them.” The governor, who said he had approved 30 per cent of the contract sum to mobilise the contractor, warned against derailment from the specifications. He, however, said that the project would be delivered within the projected 18 months.
