A former Zonal Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bauchi South, in Bauchi State, Mrs. Jemimah Dutse, who was murdered by assailants, has been laid to rest amid tears Wednesday.
Jemimah was found dead in her residence with her throat being slit by unidentified assailants over the weekend.
A closest neighbour to the victim, Jonathan Josiah, narrated that “she was hit with a pestle on the head, stabbed with a knife on the chest and slaughtered like a ram,” at her house located at the Muazu New Layout, Yelwa, of Bauchi metropolis.
She was laid to rest at Lafiyan Sara (Kwara) Village in Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State on Wednesday.
At the Funeral Service held at the Church Of Christ In Nations (COCIN) Center, Bauchi, hundreds of sympathizers gathered to pay their last respect to the deceased with family, friends and political associates in their glowing tributes to the 51-year old, described her a calm, kind, loving and peaceful person.
In her tribute, her only daughter, Deborah, described her mother as the woman who gave her everything, saying she didn’t deserve what happened to her.
She said her mother was killed cruelly and unjustly by unknown persons, with her heart broken beyond words. “She didn’t deserve what happened to her. They took her away from me. She was my first teacher, my protector and my comfort. Her voice calmed me and her prayers covered me.
“She was taken away from me cruelly and unjustly by unknown hands, and my heart is broken in a way that words cannot fix. They took her away from me, but they could never take you away from my heart. I will carry her with me for the rest of my life. Rest well, my beautiful mother. I love you forever,” she said.
Her siblings, in their separate tributes, said her death has left a “painful emptiness” in their family and they will love to cherish the beautiful and precious memories they shared together.
Chairman of the Regional Church Council (RCC), PCC, Bauchi, Rev. Yohanna Daniel, said “In the past, we used to hear of such incidents in far places, not in Bauchi or even in Nigeria. Someone will go and kill another person, we never heard of such in Bauchi. But now, this is the third incident.
“A woman was found on the farm and she was killed. In Birshi Gandu, I have it on good record, a woman was slaughtered there. And then, here they came and slaughtered our dear sister. Can’t we take action to stem these rising incidents?
“People keep committing such wickedness and then we say God will avenge. We are to first take action, but if we stay quiet and refuse to do anything, wickedness will continue far more than this, wickedness will continue far more than this.
“The truth is that, enough is enough. How can someone enter a house and slaughter someone like an animal? This is great wickedness and God will deal with such acts and bring these wicked people to judgement.
“This is the third incident and I tell you, enough is enough. This evil has to stop. If you are a wicked person, now is the right time for you to stop your wicked acts. Stop being an agent of wickedness.”
In his sermon, Rev. Ibrahim Garba, who read from Ecclesiastes 3.1-4, said there’s nothing that happens on earth without God’s knowledge.
“As we are gathered here today, we have different thoughts running through our minds, we are in serious worry over what has happened to us. Everyone is thinking, how did this happen? Everyone is thinking why did God not make these evil people to be arrested yet? But God does his things when he wants to.”
