• Community insists on spiritual cleansing before oil production resumes
The Ogoni Dialogue Committee has urged communities in Ogoni to be vocal and active in the oil resumption processes, assuring that their concerns will be articulated and presented as a unified demand from Ogoni people to the Federal Government.

Co-Chairman of the committee, Archbishop Ignatius Kattey (rtd), gave the charge during a meeting with communities in Tai Local Council at the council’s Secretariat in Saakpenwa yesterday.

Kattey emphasised that the dialogue offers Ogonis an opportunity to ensure their voices are heard, urging community members to participate actively in the process.

He stated that the Federal Government has commenced the confidence-building process which was requested by the Ogoni delegation with the signing of the bill for the establishment of the Federal University of Environment and Technology in Tai Council.

He reiterated that the university has the potential to unlock significant economic opportunities for the Ogoni people, representing a beacon of hope and progress for the area.

MEANWHILE, the Barako Ancient Community of Ogoni has reiterated its demand for spiritual remediation of the Ogoni, as a major precondition for the resumption of oil and gas activities in the area.

The community made this demand during the celebration of the Uula-mii giaa/Lol-Giaa tor, which marks the beginning of a new planting season in Ogoni.

The recently held event was attended by the Paramount Ruler of Barako Ancient Community, His Royal Highness, Mene Kadilo Kabari, and his subjects. According to Kabari, the demand for spiritual remediation is non-negotiable.

He emphasised that the bloodshed on Ogoni soil over the years has polluted the land, and, as such, requires spiritual cleansing before any oil and gas activities can resume.
