To reduce the rate of electricity accidents and hazards amongst students, Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), yesterday, commenced a campaign targeted at promoting safety in the use of electricity at schools.

Chief Executive Officer, (BEDC), Mrs. Funke Osibodu made the disclosure during a media parley on Meter Asset Providers (MAP).

Osibodu added that the safety campaign would also be extended to homes, roads and workplace but in particular the students who would become safety ambassadors in their various homes.

“As part of effort to give back to the society, selected schools will get educational materials from BEDC, which includes branded exercise books and snapper frames inscribed with safety tips and safety message amongst other items,” he said.

Osibodu commended the Federal Government through the Nigerian Electricity
Regulatory Commission (NERC) for putting up Meter Asset Provider Scheme MAP in place to address the metering gap in the power sector.

She said: “For us at BEDC, we have signed Agreements with Five MAP parties approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). They are expected to fast-track further metering penetration in our coverage areas.”
