Benue PDP tasks governorship aspirants on livestock anti-grazing

Mindful of the unending killing of farmers in Benue by suspected herdsmen, the state Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), John Ngbede, has admonished governorship aspirants on its platform to be committed to measures aimed at regulating open grazing of livestock in the state.

Mindful of the unending killing of farmers in Benue by suspected herdsmen, the state Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), John Ngbede, has admonished governorship aspirants on its platform to be committed to measures aimed at regulating open grazing of livestock in the state. 

Ngbede said the PDP would weigh aspirants’ track records and assess their campaign messages on the strength of their commitment to measures that would ensure the protection of lives and properties of Benue people from the menace of killer herdsmen in the state.

A statement by his media aide, Ejembi Ogwuche, quoted Ngbede saying: “Today’s climate of insecurity in the state, where Benue people are uncontrollably murdered in cold blood, because of grazing of livestock on their farmlands by herdsmen is unacceptable to the PDP and thus, all its governorship aspirants must show unfettered and visible commitment to measures that will stop this dastardly acts.” 

He added that the party took the stance to reflect its qualified position on the sanctity of lives of Benue indigenes, who have come under severe attacks from the activities of herdsmen that brazenly graze on their farmlands. 

The statement added: “As the party of the people of Benue, those aspiring to govern the state under the PDP has moral obligations to prove their capacity to protect lives and properties of the people and the party will make dynamic leaders to be in charge in the state.”Ngbede assured that the PDP would continue to address basic issues of protection of lives and properties, which he noted, are cardinal priorities of the party.He commiserated with the families of those that lost their lives in the killings by herdsmen in Benue communities and called for cessation of hostilities.
