Beyond the Car: Zeus3D makes major leap in interior design

For years, Nigerian creative entrepreneur Leslie Abiola’s relationship with automobiles has largely played out on the body of the car itself. Through his company, Zeus3D, much of that work has involved vinyl wrapping, customisation and using colour and finish to change the way a familiar vehicle is experienced.

His latest experiment drives that thinking further away from the road. In a new creative exploration, Zeus3D has developed a large-format, motorsport-inspired wall piece that sits somewhere between automotive fan art, sculpture and interior decoration.

Drawing inspiration from the distinctive silhouettes of open-wheel racing cars, the piece translates the visual character of motorsport into a decorative installation. It forms part of a personal fan art project through which Abiola explores his appreciation for automotive design and racing culture.

“I have always liked the idea of changing how people experience familiar things,” Abiola says. “With cars, we use wrapping to give something people already know a different character. I wanted to see what happens when that same thinking enters a home, office or private space.”

The work retains much of the visual language Zeus3D already uses around automobiles, including bodywork, colour, finish, form, vinyl wrapping and bespoke treatments. Here, however, those elements are being treated more deliberately as objects of design.

It also gives Abiola room to explore another side of automotive culture, one where a car does not necessarily have to be driven for its design to be appreciated. The proportions, aerodynamic contours and distinctive forms associated with motorsport vehicles already possess qualities that lend themselves naturally to sculpture.

For Zeus3D, the project represents an experimental extension of its creative interests, bringing automotive customisation techniques into the world of interior styling. Conceived primarily as an independent fan art expression, the piece celebrates motorsport aesthetics without representing any particular racing team, championship or automotive manufacturer.

For Abiola, it is also a way of testing how far automotive design can travel beyond its original function. The road, in this case, ends at the wall.
