Board game unveiled to tackle sexual abuse in children

The Smart Kids Board Game has launched its board game, which aims to tackle the incidence of sexual abuse in children. The event, which was held at the weekend in Lagos, had many parents, teachers and kids in attendance, to witness the unveiling of the game and also learn a few things about sexual abuse in children and how the board game can help curb it.

Founder and CEO of Smart Kids Board Game, Mark Ahamefula, talked about his penchant for creative and innovative ideas and what inspired the idea for the board game. He said: “I thought sexual abuse was a myth and over the years the idea of doing a sex education board game kept popping up but I did not take it serious until my wife shared her story with me.”

Explaining how the game would tackle sexual abuse and ignorance about sexual education in children, he said it makes it easy for parents to teach their children sexual education and also helps children know what sexual abuse is all about and when to speak up.

“The game makes it easy to talk about things that parents find hard to talk about. My parents never told me about sex or sexual abuse at any time in my life. Everything I learnt, I learnt them myself but times have changed and children need to be protected from sexual predators out there by educating them. With the smart kids’ board game, parents are forced to talk and name the privates and public parts of the body and their functions; else you have to start the game all over again.

“For parents whose children do not talk to them about sex, this game is an ice breaker because they begin to ask you questions they never did before. Children would be able to defend themselves now more than ever because they have this tool in their hands,” he said.
