Borno distributes rice, other items to IDPs after protests
The Borno State Government, yesterday, distributed 6, 000 bags of rice and other food items, after the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) protested last Thursday, over inadequate supplies of food and water at the Arabic Teachers’ College resettlement camp of Maiduguri.
The distributed food items include, 1, 500 bags and cartons each of beans, noodles, maize grits and condiments for seasoning.
Distributing the food items at the camp yesterday, the Deputy Governor, Usman Durkwa said he was there to redeem the pledges of increased supplies of food items to IDPs in camps and host communities.
Durkwa, however, warned: “Any IDP that diverts and sells these foods items, will be arrested, bundled and returned to Marte by security agencies.”
Ahmed Satomi, Chairman of State’s Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), explained that some of the IDPs sell the food items, after distribution in the camps.
