The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the election of Nyesom Wike as the duly elected governor of Rivers State.
The Court, however, deferred giving reasons for affirming Wike’s election till February 12, 2016.
Wike’s election was nullified by Rivers Governorship election Petition Tribunal on October 24, 2015. The tribunal, which delivered its ruling in Abuja, also ordered that a fresh governorship election be conducted in the state.
The Court of Appeal, on December 16, 2015, affirmed the ruling of the tribunal, noting that the Rivers State governor was not duly elected.
