He said the request was in line with Section 154 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

In another correspondence, the President also asked the upper legislative chamber to confirm four nominees as Executive Commissioners of the Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission (NURC).

Dated March 24, 2022, and read at plenary by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, the letter listed NURC nominees as Dr. Nuhu Habib (North West, Kano State), Commissioner, Development and Production; and Dr. Kelechi Onyekachi Ofoegbu (South East, Imo State), Commissioner, Economic Regulation and Strategic Planning.

Others are Captain Tonlagha Roland John (South-South, Delta State), Commissioner, Health, Safety, Environment and Community; and Jide Adeola (North Central, Kogi State), Commissioner, Corporate Services and Administration.

Buhari premised the demand on Section 11(3) of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021.
