Hanan Buhari, daughter of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, has dedicated her recognition as one of the 100 Most Notable Peace Icons Africato the memory of her late father, describing him as the foundation of her values, confidence, and commitment to service.
She received the prestigious honour at the recently concluded 100 Most Notable Africans Leadership and Business Summit, organised by the DAVDAN Peace and Advocacy Foundation and 100 Most Notable Peace Icons Africa in Marrakech, Morocco.
The summit brought together distinguished leaders, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and influential personalities from across Africa to celebrate individuals making remarkable contributions to leadership, peace-building, business, and sustainable development, and several other prominent African change-makers.
Speaking after receiving the award, Hanan Buhari expressed profound gratitude to the organisers, Amb Dr Kingsley Amafibe and the team, for the recognition and paid an emotional tribute to her late father.
“I dedicate this honour to my late father, President Muhammadu Buhari, whose guidance, discipline, and unwavering belief in me shaped the woman I have become. He taught me the importance of integrity, resilience, and selfless service. His confidence in me gave me the courage to believe in myself, and I will continue to uphold the values he instilled in me by working to empower women and contribute meaningfully to society,” she said.

The colourful award ceremony was held at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès Marrakech, located within the Mövenpick Hotel complex in Morocco, and attracted dignitaries, business executives, diplomats, and development partners from across the continent.
Hanan Buhari is the Founder of Hanan Buhari Foundation and has remained a visible advocate for women and children through her Foundation. She continues to inspire young women to challenge societal stereotypes, embrace leadership opportunities, and contribute to national and continental development.
Project Director of the summit, Amb. Kingsley Amafibe, congratulated the award recipient, describing her as a role model whose commitment to women’s advancement continues to inspire a new generation of African leaders.
He commended her consistency in promoting initiatives that encourage women to take up leadership responsibilities and participate actively in economic development.
Amafibe noted that the summit has continued to serve as one of Africa’s foremost platforms for recognising excellence, fostering strategic collaboration, promoting visionary leadership, and advancing impactful initiatives capable of driving sustainable peace and development across the continent.
