BUK suspends first semester exams to join ASUU in NLC strike

Bayero University Kano (BUK) has suspended the ongoing first-semester examination as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) joined the Nigerian Labour Congress NLC and Trade Union Congress TUC indefinite strike.

The national body of the Academic Staff yesterday directed members across the universities to join the nationwide industrial action declared over the assault meted out to the NLC president Joe Ajero.

In a statement signed by Acting Registrar of the University, Amina Umar Abdullahi Tuesday evening, the institution directed that the 2022/2023 academic session and all other academic activities remain suspended till further notice.

The institution commenced the first term examines October 27th and is expected to round up on 27th November 2023. The university management cited the joint decision of the University Unions to participate in the nationwide strike as the reason for its decision.

“Following the nationwide strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the subsequent decision by the University Unions to join the strike, the Management of Bayero University, Kano, has decided to suspend the ongoing 2022/2023 First Semester Undergraduate examinations and all other academic activities until further notice,” the bulletin stated.

However, the university urged students to remain calm and await further directives from the management.

It is uncertain when the university will resume the examination to enable over 7,000 students complete their academics since the strike was declared indefinite.
