Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has emerged as the Chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum.

According to the governor, his endorsement to chair the six-member forum for two years was for the successful conclusion of the three-day meeting of governors.

Buni accepted the chairmanship over the weekend (Friday) at the closing ceremony of the three-day meeting, held at the Indimi International Conference Centre, Maiduguri, Borno State.

He said: “I wish to, on behalf of myself, the government, and people of Yobe State, commend and appreciate the decision of my colleagues for endorsing me as the new chairman of the Forum.

“Let me use this opportunity to reassure my dear colleagues that I shall serve with a great sense of responsibility and the commitment deserving of the office.”

He pledged to liaise and work with the governors and all the development partners. The governor noted that this will ensure they are on the same page to work for the success of the forum on various development projects in the region.

He, therefore, thanked the outgoing chairperson, IIdjima Abdraman, the governor of Hadjer Lamis province, Chad, for her leadership.
