CAC withdraws NYCN registration, names interim management committee

The Federal Ministry of Youth Development has announced the withdrawal of the registration certificate of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), citing prolonged leadership disputes and repeated governance violations.

According to a statement issued by the Director (Information and Public Relations), Federal Ministry of Youth Development, Omolara Esan, on Tuesday, the CAC, in a letter dated October 6, 2025, informed the Ministry that the certificate earlier issued to the NYCN on October 28, 2020, had been revoked following an extensive investigation into the organisation’s operations.

The Commission said its decision was taken under the powers conferred by Sections 8(1)(c) and 8(1)(d) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, after identifying serial breaches of the NYCN Constitution and the provisions of Sections 833 and 834 of CAMA.

As a result, the CAC nullified all existing claims to leadership, trusteeship, and management within the Council and announced the establishment of an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to administer its affairs for one year, effective October 6, 2025.

The Federal Ministry of Youth Development, acknowledging the action, said it recognises the legal authority of the CAC and will cooperate fully in the transition process.

“As the supervisory authority over the National Youth Council of Nigeria, the Ministry takes due cognizance of this development and acknowledges the legal authority of the Corporate Affairs Commission under the Companies and Allied Matters Act, 2020,” the statement said.

It called on all youth stakeholders, member organisations, and partners of the Council to cooperate with the IMC in the ongoing restructuring exercise aimed at restoring unity and legitimacy to the organisation.

“The Ministry urges all stakeholders to take due note of this development and cooperate fully with the Interim Management Committee in the ongoing restructuring process,” the statement added.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to ensuring a credible and inclusive youth governance structure that upholds transparency and accountability in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
