The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has declared 2019 as a year of peace, prosperity, rest of mind and a year in which the Almighty God will miraculously intervene in the nation’s affairs.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has declared 2019 as a year of peace, prosperity, rest of mind and a year in which the Almighty God will miraculously intervene in the nation’s affairs.

In a New Year massage titled: Our Dry Bones Shall Rise Again, CAN President, Reverend Samson Ayokunle, noted that 2019 is a crucial year for Nigerians due to the forthcoming general elections.

He urged all Nigerians to ensure that they live in peace without being involved in violence throughout the year, especially before, during and after next year’s election.

He said: “We should all distance ourselves from electoral manipulation in whatever form. I urge politicians not to be too desperate to be voted into power and get themselves involved in using thugs to cause chaos or commit electoral fraud.

“Votes buying is evil, all stakeholders should shun the act. Voters should not be intimidated and election observers should not be harassed, as we witnessed in recent polls.”

Ayokunle appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to maintain neutrality in its conduct during the elections, stressing that without free, fair and credible election, which will bring credible leadership, the dry bones of Nigeria will not rise again.

Ayokunle appealed to law enforcement agencies, especially the Police and officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) deployed to maintain peace not to compromise their neutrality by working for desperate politicians.

He warned that the military should not be dragged into the electoral process but should be allowed to carry out their primary responsibilities.

Ayokunle prayed that the year will be full of God’s goodness for Nigerians.
