CAN urges churches, others to open food banks in Kaduna

People now appreciate things they disregarded, says Sani
Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna State chapter, has called on all churches and privileged individuals in the state to open food bank for the thousands of poor citizens who are wallowing in hunger under the lockdown to access.

The Christian body, however, urged all Christians in the state to continue obeying government’s directive of staying in their homes and obeying the rules against the pandemic.

Chairman of Kaduna CAN, Rev. Joseph Hayab, said “this is the time churches and privileged Nigerians should come to the aid of thousands of citizens who can no longer provide means of survival” as a result of the COVID-19 lockdown in the state.

According to him, CAN leadership in the state is not unmindful of what most members are going through during this COVID-19 lockdown.

His words, “It is not easy, but with obedience and strict observance of laid-down regulations of staying at home, regular washing of hands, avoiding large gatherings, ensuring social distancing and others towards curbing the spread the virus, as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we will, by God’s grace, soon get out of this trying moment.

“While we remain obedience to constituted authority, we strongly employ us all to truly be our brothers’ keepers at this trying moment. I, therefore, call on our churches to open food banks, so that privileged members can bring food there to be shared to those who do not have, so that they too will have something to eat.”

Meanwhile, Senator Shehu Sani that represented Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, has said that people are appreciating the little things they took for granted.

On his social media page, the senator urged the super powers to retrace their steps after the pandemic.

For him, until the vaccine to the virus is created, life cannot go back to normal.

His words, “Until a vaccine is developed and made available to all, life cannot go back to ‘the old normal’.

“Today human beings are appreciating those little things they hitherto took for granted.”

According to him, COVID-19 is taking lives, crashing economies and stocking up social tension, adding that the earlier we get out of this the better for the peace and stability of our planet.

“There will definitely be revolt and convulsions globally if this situation prolongs.

“This is actually our moment of truth. We have pilled enough missiles, rockets and guns to fight others, and now we only need ventilators, sanitisers and masks to protect ourselves.”
