While other children celebrated Children’s Day, some kids in Rivers staged a peaceful protest alongside Civil Society Organisations, demanding the release of abducted 12-year-old Favour Oluwaseyi Oluwatofunmi.
Favour was kidnapped on August 7, 2024, after being lured from her father’s house by a friend. It was gathered that despite providing overwhelming evidence, including tracing an account used for ransom to a suspect in Enugu prisons, her whereabouts remain unknown till date.
The protesters accused the police of sleeping on the case.
During the protest in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, the police authorities assured late Favour’s family, the Civil Society Organisations and the protesting kids of swift action within two weeks, just as they promised to bring all involved parties in for questioning.
Barituka Loanyie, Public Relations and Spokesperson of Rivers Civil Society Organizations(RIVCSO), vowed that the police will be held responsible if it fails to adhere to the promises, adding that they will stage a massive protest.
“We will hold the police to their word, but if nothing is done, we’ll mobilise for a massive protest until Favour is safely reunited with her family,” he said.
