Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the forthcoming 2027 election, Peter Obi, has marked this year’s Children’s Day with a heartfelt message calling for urgent and sustained investment in the welfare, education, and healthcare of Nigerian children, describing them as both the nation’s present strength and its future hope.

In his message to children across the country, Obi congratulated them on the celebration and reflected on their “talent, energy and resilience,” noting that every child represents untapped potential capable of transforming Nigeria if properly nurtured.
He said that whether in classrooms, internally displaced persons’ camps, or urban streets, Nigerian children continue to demonstrate remarkable promise that must not be wasted due to systemic neglect.

According to him, “Each time I look into the eyes of a child in Nigeria… I see future scientists, tech innovators, leaders and builders who can stand toe-to-toe with the world if given access to the right resources.”
Obi stressed that the true measure of leadership is reflected in how a nation treats its youngest citizens, warning that it is unacceptable for millions of children to remain out of school or to have access to healthcare and safety treated as privileges rather than fundamental rights.

He argued that Nigeria’s long-term development depends on shifting from a consumption-driven economy to a production-based one, insisting that such transformation must begin with heavy investment in foundational education and healthcare.
“Failing to invest in our children today is akin to borrowing from our future,” he warned.

Addressing children directly, Obi encouraged them to remain hopeful and determined despite present challenges.
He urged them to keep dreaming, remain curious, and embrace learning and technology, noting that the world is evolving rapidly and Nigerian children have the intellectual capacity to lead global innovation.
He also encouraged them to take pride in their identity, describing Nigerians as resilient, brilliant, and capable of greatness when given equal opportunity.

Obi concluded by reaffirming his commitment to a “new Nigeria” where children’s dreams are protected, schools are safe, and every child has a fair chance at a dignified future.
He ended his message with blessings for children across the country and a prayer for the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
