The Civil Society Organizations on Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiatives (CSCHEI), a coalition representing civil society across 28 Nigerian states, has commended President Bola Tinubu for his transformative leadership in expanding the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) into six regional campuses.

This ambitious initiative establishes campuses in Zaria (North-West), Yola (North-East), Ilorin (North-Central), Akure (South-West), Osubi (South-South), and Ebonyi (South-East). It aims to decentralise aviation education, promote regional development, and enhance the efficiency of NCAT’s operations. CSCHEI praised this move as a crucial step towards bridging gaps in aviation training and fostering inclusion across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.

Kunle Yusuff, Director General of CSCHEI, noted that the initiative aligns seamlessly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Quality Education (Goal 4), Decent Work and Economic Growth (Goal 8), Affordable and Clean Energy (Goal 7), and Climate Action (Goal 13). He emphasised that such strategic actions have the potential to promote economic growth and capacity building while strengthening the aviation sector’s contribution to national development.

The organisation has called on stakeholders at all levels—state and local governments, private sector players, and other civil society groups—to rally behind the initiative and ensure its successful implementation. CSCHEI reiterated that this collaborative effort is vital to achieving the SDGs and positioning Nigeria as a leader in aviation excellence.

The NCAT expansion is set to bolster access to quality aviation education while driving regional economic growth and aligning with global development goals, making it a landmark achievement in the nation’s aviation history.
