A Catholic Priest, Reverend Father Humphrey Nwajoko, of the ‘Every day with Jesus and Mary Adoration Ministry Holy Trinity Parish, Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, Anambra State, has secured the release of eight inmates from the Nnewi Correctional Centre over their inability to pay their fines.

The inmates are Sani Musa, Hammandada Adamu, Suleiman Kabiru, Paul Martins, Jonathan Haruna, Emmanuel Magaji, Salihu Ali and Ibrahim James, all from the Northern part of the country.

Nwajoko said he was moved with a passion to assist the inmates when some officials of the Correctional Centre approached him for assistance, adding that the inmates had been remanded for almost two years because they were unable to pay their fines as ordered by the court.

He urged the inmates to embrace God and serve Jesus Christ, stressing that they should avoid any vice that might take them back to prison.

Speaking, ASP 1 of the Nnewi Correctional Centre, Mrs. Uche Okeke, explained that the freed inmates were arrested by law enforcement agents and brought to the centre, but could not pay the fines for the alleged crime.
