Aboyeji made this known at a press briefing in Lagos, yesterday, while fielding questions from newsmen ahead of the church’s International Conference for Ministers and Leaders (ICML) 2025, themed: “Faith for great exploits,” scheduled to be held from April 14 to 18, 2025, at its Camp group located at Km 75, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, near Ajebo, Ogun State.
He lamented that the current Constitution left so many things too open, citing the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State as one of them.
Arguing that Rivers State is not the first state of emergency Nigerians experienced, Aboyeji noted that past presidents who declared a state of emergency acted differently because of the clause that gave them the leeway to do it the way they deemed fit.
He stated that those who are blaming President Bola Tinubu should go and look at the clause in the Nigerian Constitution and discover that the presidents acted differently from each other.
“We, as Christians, have made our decisions known on this Constitution, and for us, we don’t believe this is the Constitution that a secular nation should have. A secular nation where you have things like Islam in the Constitution, Sharia, and there is no mention of the Bible, Christ, no mention of the church. It is not a secular nation.
“The Constitution is fundamentally faulty…lf you give it to somebody who doesn’t know about Nigeria, he or she would say what kind of nation is this. That is one of the fallouts, it’s so open. All the presidents that came before President Tinubu interpreted it differently,” Aboyeji stated.
